Doug Hoffman vs. Bill Owens in New York
With today’s stunning announcement that Dede Scozzafava is exiting the New York special election contest, conservative hopes are buoyed that Doug Hoffman may be able to win the election against Barack Obama ally Bill Owens.
The race took on new prominence last week after former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin endorsed Hoffman.
The Obama White House is sending Joe Biden to campaign with Owens on Monday.
Scozzafava was seen by many conservatives as a “Democrat-Lite” candidate who did not reflect their values and beliefs. Her forced exit from the contest is being celebrated as something of a victory for the party’s base.
